Packing and storing questions

How does it work?

The process is simple, quick and entirely managed through our website or you can call in your requests. After you place an order, we will deliver your empty containers, locks and welcome kit which includes an inventory form and other helpful information. You pack your boxes, or have a Box Butler professional assist you pack for a modest fee. The completed inventory can be entered online onto our web based system for easy access or stored in hard copy at your home.  We can even take of picture of every item in storage. Then order a pick-up and we will retrieve your locked containers. All or individual containers are returned at your request.

Is there anything you won’t store?

Yes, we will not store perishable items, liquids, explosive devices or any illegal substances.

Do you provide packing supplies?

We can supply packing supplies like bubble wrap at your request.

Can I use my own boxes or containers?

Yes, you may use your own cardboard boxes or plastic containers.

Do you store large items such as furniture, rugs or lamps?

Yes, we even store larger items like furniture and can take a picture of each piece for easy identification and recall. For larger pieces of furniture, we may need to schedule you further out in advance to ensure we have enough Butlers and the right sized vehicle.

How do you store bikes?

We store our customers bicycles on racks, separate from other storage. This makes your bicycle easier to retrieve and reduces the risk of it getting bumped, buried, or damaged by other storage.

Are there weight limits on my storage?

Yes, small boxes may weigh no more than 75lbs and, large boxes no more than 100lbs.

Scheduling questions

When do you drop off the containers?

We drop off any containers that you have ordered within 36 to 72 hours of the request – right to your door!

What days are you closed and do not deliver?

The Box Butler is open and delivering every day except major holidays which include New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

How quickly can I have access to my items in storage?

Normal delivery times are between 36-48 hours from time of request, but if you need expedited service, we can easily accommodate a quick delivery in as little as six hours for a modest surcharge. We deliver 7 days a week.

Payment and billing questions

How does your cost compare to other solutions?

We are competitive with or cheaper than self-storage facilities.  We  provide much easier access to your items as you never have to travel to a storage facility. We come to you!

Best of all – once you book your room and your space needs are confirmed, we never raise your rates! Your cubic foot rate for the space rented is good for the term of your agreement with The Box Butler.

What happens to my belongings if I am late making a payment?

We know that emergencies and unexpected events can interrupt finances. If you know in advance that you may be late making a payment for any reason, please contact us so that we can work with you!

You may be charged a late payment fee when you are late or miss making a payment and do not reach out to us in advance. In extreme cases we may not return your belongings until your account balance is settled.

Do I have to make a long-term commitment?

There are no long term requirements and a short 2 month minimum commitment for any short term storage.

When you store with us for 6 months or longer, our monthly storage rates are lower and we provide free initial Box Butler container delivery and free pick-up on site up to 30 minutes!

Do you offer a discount for students?

We have several student discount programs in place for a variety of schools and universities in and around New York City. When placing an order online, please be sure to select “Student” from the account type on the checkout page and let us know where you are attending school.

If we one is available, we will apply your school’s special incentive to your account. We currently have programs in place for the following schools:

  • NYU
  • Pace
  • Universtiy of Visual Arts ← This is not a full college name
  • Cooper Union
  • JTS

What forms of payment do you accept?

The Box Butler accepts all major credit cards and your account is set-up so that your monthly storage fee is automatically billed to your credit card. We also accept cash and check, but we may ask for a deposit or a credit card to hold your reservation.


Insurance questions

What kind of insurance do you provide?

The Box Butler has a relationship with Baders, one of the largest providers of self-storage tenant insurance in the United States. We include details of their plan and rates in our Welcome Kit. Alternatively, the contents of your containers can usually be added to your homeowner’s insurance policy for a nominal fee and we suggest you check with your insurance agent.

Do you insure my belongings?

As with most storage providers, supplemental tenant insurance can be arranged if you are not covered under your current homeowners or renters policy. We strongly advise you to have coverage on your belongings.

Where are you storage facilities located?

Our warehouse is located in NJ, 12 miles from New York City. Visit the Our Facility page to learn more!

Are my belongings safe and secure?

Yes. Our warehouse is constructed from cinder block and concrete and is fully sprinkled; provides 24×7 monitored security in a climate controlled environment. Best of all, you seal and lock your belongings while still in your apartment.

Website questions

How do I access my stuff if the website is down?

Our toll free number is covered 24/7 for emergency issues. Our website maintains 99.998% up time and any and all maintenance is scheduled between midnight and 6am on weekends.

How do I place an order if I am using my own storage containers?

You can select one of the “Rent- A-Room” packages found on our Storage Rate page that best matches your needs, or you can call us.

You will not have to enter any payment information to place an order, and we will measure and confirm the space you need when we pick up your items.

How do I access my inventory?

To access your inventory, log in to your account on When you have logged in, you will be taken to the “My Account” screen. Click the “Client Portal” link. For security purposes, you will need to re-enter your login information. After you have re-entered your login information, you’ll be taken to your inventory.

Are you a member of any industry associations?

We are members of the Mobile Self Storage Association, National Self-Storage Association and members of the New York and Northern New Jersey Chapters of The National Association of Organizing Professionals.
